Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 1

Step 1: A Strong Start
We kick things off with a single layer of vibrant red bricks, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the model. As with previous builds, the Nanoblock pad proves its worth, making this initial step relatively straightforward. Notably, Knuckles follows the pattern of Sonic and Tails, commencing with the head and building upward.

Step 2: Layering Up
Moving on to Step 2, we add another single layer of red bricks. Without the Nanoblock pad or a similar tool, combining this step with the first one is necessary to maintain stability throughout the build. It’s not terribly tricky getting started without the pad, so don’t sweat it if you can’t get your hands on one.

Step 3: A Simple Addition
Step 3 introduces a simple layer, placing two 2×3 bricks on top of the previous layer. It’s a straightforward progression that sets the stage for more intricate details.

Step 4: Building the Face
This two-part step, Step 4, starts to shape Knuckles’ face, including his snout. The separation of his snout from the rest of his head design proves advantageous, making this section easy to assemble.

Step 5: Enhancing Stability
In Step 5, we wrap a single layer around the entire head section, further securing the connection between the head and the snout. This step contributes to Knuckles’ distinctive appearance.

Step 6: Progress Continues
Adding yet another single layer of red, Step 6 maintains the straightforward nature of the build, keeping us on track as we shape Knuckles.

Step 7: Defining Features
This step presents another single layer, focusing on closing up the eye and brow ridge sections. At this stage, Knuckles’ character is beginning to emerge, making the build all the more enjoyable.

Step 8: Building the Top
Continuing the progression, we add another single layer of red, this time working on the top of Knuckles’ head.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 9

Step 9: Completing the Head
Step 9 marks the completion of the top of Knuckles’ head, capped off with a centrally placed 2×4 brick, sandwiched between a pair of 1×2 bricks. This step finalizes the head section, setting the stage for the unique challenges to come.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 10

Step 10: Dreadlocks Begin
This multi-layer Step 10 is a significant one, constructing the bulk of Knuckles’ dreadlocks separately before placing them onto the head. The three-layer process that forms his dreadlocks can be relatively easy with a nanoblock pad but significantly more challenging without one.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 11

Step 11: The Dreadlock Challenge
Step 11 sees the completion of Knuckles’ signature dreadlocks. It begins by turning the model upside down and adding a row of wedges, made up of a stepped piece and either a 1×1 or 1×2 brick, inserted from the bottom up. While placing the bricks is manageable, assembling the wedges can be a bit tricky due to the unusual perspectives presented in the instructions. Careful attention is required to avoid accidentally placing these wedge pieces incorrectly.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 12

Step 12: Concluding the Dreadlocks
Essentially, Step 12 continues the work of the previous step, adding the remaining dreadlocks to the model and concluding the construction of the head section.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 13

Step 13: The Body Takes Shape
Step 13 unfolds as a multi-step process, one of the most substantial encountered in this Nanoblock set. It’s responsible for building most of Knuckles’ body, arms, and fists—complete with his characteristic knuckles. This step can be challenging and may require a complete revision if a particular instruction interpretation proves incorrect. Despite the occasional frustration, Knuckles’ attractiveness as a model shines through. Notably, the design of his arms offers more support and stability compared to previous models in the series, making for a more enjoyable experience.

Step 14: Adding Support and Detail
In Step 14, we add a support beam consisting of six clear 1×1 bricks stacked on top of each other. This step also introduces Knuckles’ tail, constructed from a single stepped piece.

Building the Nanoblock Knuckles Set: Step 15

Step 15: Completing the Build
The final step, Step 15, assembles and places Knuckles’ shoes and legs, marking the completion of this Nanoblock creation.

Final Thoughts
Knuckles emerges as an exceptionally attractive model with a mostly frustration-free build process. With the exception of Step 13, which may have benefited from being less condensed, the overall experience is smooth and enjoyable. The model boasts impressive details, such as Knuckles’ signature knuckles and green socks. Surprisingly, this model is quite sturdy, with little concern about limbs falling off. The arms are securely held between two other pieces, and the head forms one large, secure section. Overall, Knuckles is a fantastic addition to the Nanoblock Sonic lineup, delivering a rewarding and fun building experience.
